Welcome to the forum Freebird...sorry that its a problem like this that has brought you to us....

Have you contacted the seller at all?

Where abouts are you?..maybe you might be near to one of our members who might be able to help..

1st thing i would do is sort out some breakdown cover(sorry if this sounds blunt)but i would never have a car without some, just to cover situations like this.

i dont wish to pry but have you not inquired about d.l.a?

coz you might be able to get a car out of them?

hope you had a good christmas anyway

regards gregers

we've had DLA for the past three years and had a Fiat Doblo on finance for various reasons, but DLA as it is would only give us 5 years for my daughter and that was after a fight as first they said no and second time they allowed it for 2 years then after another fight they increased it to 5 years. As you can see I've had to fight for everything for my daughter !

Yes we did have breakdown cover with the AA but when I called them on Xmas Eve they said that the cover was " Fiat Cover" and that the Galaxy wasn't covered, I wasn't aware of that or I would have taken cover out.... the AA said yes they would come to us but all together it would cost

thanks for replying, I'm in shock that someone could be so low, they know I have a family and my disabled daughter to get around.

I've tried other auto gear places but I guess they must not be back after xmas, no reply, I'll try again tomorrow.

I've sent the seller a photo of the car on the back of the tow truck and the cost estimated by north west autos...not that it will mean much !

If you have a phone number..ring the seller..i am assumeing that it was a private sale...in private sales, im afraid it is up to the buyer to fully check out the car... ;) ... not what you want to hear i know.....

has the gal got high milaege?

Not a great deal that can be done, phone the DTI

I found this snippet

Q12. What if I have bought a car from a private seller?

When you buy privately you do not have so many rights. You can still expect the car to be as described and if it is not, you can sue for compensation.

on this page http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/fact-sheets/page9010.html

Have a look through the DTI website but it looks as much as this is a costly civil matter, I would have though the engine management light would have come on before then, see if the bulb has been removed.

Check your transmission fluid levels, is the steering heavy also.

I had a similar problem but not on a GAL, never owned a Gal ;) but I think all things work in the same way.

mmm, had a look on TIS.

its not too clear, but it shows a "selector cable" attached to the "gear selector lever" and also a DLC - data link connection...whatever one of those is.

it also shows how to adjust the selector cable, maybe this is your problem?

is yours a 4 speed automatic?

does it have "P R N D 3 2 1"

or is it "P R N D 4 3 2"

have you tried using 3 2 or 1, instead of just "D" - did the engine Rev up when you tried to drive it.

has it worked ok before? why did the seller say leave the engine running before selecting "D", and by "leave it running" for how long for?

thank you all so much for trying to help me.

I'm not in a position to do any repairs myself even if I had the knowledge, I have arthritis and my hands aren't too good.

The other local gear box people are closed today, I've tried 4 of them. no answer.

Apparently North West Tranmissions are the local "reputable" people and know their stuff and they are the ones who have said that even a repair could be

Did you buy it outside of ebay?..i.e...made him an offer and he accepted?

Yes..does say that he will offer a refund....so this happened 2 days after you buying the car?

If they dont refund..lodge a claim in the small claims court...keep a copy of all emails sent..a log of all telephone conversations.......and a copy of the ad...time to be tough im afraid.....wipe the tears.....we will help where we can.....if the seller does not ring..then ring him back and say that unless he refunds at least part/all or pays for repairs..then you will be taking him to court......

Any members on here willing to help?..at least have a look at the gal?

where abouts is Garston?..im reknown for my lack of direction im afraid..

If it does come to a case where legal action is required goto the county courts and ask for a County Court Judgement application form, fill it all in with the relevent details and sign it, Make a copy of it and send the copy to him with a covering letter stating that you are unsatisfied and may proceed with legal action if no resolution is made within xyz time.

Just the thought of a CCJ will make ppl reconsider, when they see the paperwork they go into a sweat the more affluent they are the more it panics them, if they got no money they don't care.

thanks again for your help.

It's in the South end of Liverpool, not too far from the Airport.

I've printed off the ebay stuff and I'm waiting for him to phone back.

He has my mobile number.

I'm taking the kids to the park now as I'll "blow" or crack up if I stay indoors today.

I'll come back online later and let you know how things have got on.

thanks Freebird x

Gt....thanks for your advice. I've used the small claims before and I was thinking of that but this guy is a taxi driver and not wanting to slate all taxi drivers from Liverpool.......

they are quite a tough bunch of people and usually "deal" with things in their own way......

This is Liverpool and I'm fearful that if I go down that Road.....I may need to replace my "windows".....

In reality..court action could worry some people but I'm afraid that it probably wouldn't in this case !

I know what you mean as my other half is from liverpool.....id give him to ends day..ring and let them know..that unless they do something..then tomorow/new year you will be lodging a claim with the court.....

I'm a member of the Consumer Action Forum and I've asked for help there too. They are wonderful with all consumer issues.

I came on your forum as you're all experienced with Galaxy's and as I have no knowledge what so ever, I've fallen hook line and sinker for his blarney.......

I'm going to get some air in the park now, and maybe with a clear head, I'll see light at the end of the tunnel.........

There's got to be a solution to all this, I just don't feel too hopeful right now !!!

thanks Freebird x

I received a reply which more or less said, --- off.

And I'm cautious about taking him to court for reasons I stated earlier.

It's not the court I'm worried about, it's flack from him......

So I guess I have to lump it now.

I don't suppose you know of anyone who would buy a Galaxy, knowing that they would have to probably get a re con auto gear box ( the rest's gorgeous !)

Any enthusiasts out there ? who could do it up for themselves and/or sell it on ?

I know I'm clutching at straws but I can't go down the court Road, I value my life and windows too much !

Aww hun..i understand your dilemma....

maybe someone on here will be able to help....just keep fingers crossed hun

Cmon peeps..season of goodwill and all that...anyone near who can help?

though i do think that you should seek legal advice..over the sale of goods that are naffed..

I know what everyone's saying is right and in a fair world we could all, sue and get compensation for bad deals etc. but this guy would blow his top if I even suggested court and I would get the back lash with no protection from the police etc.....too much agro to go down that route I'm afraid.

He's not budging and even with law on my side it would need to go to the small claims court and I'd run the risk of one of his "friends" causing damage to me or mine, with no proof etc...

So I'm stuck, mumof4, and me being mumof3&nanof2.....I value our lives too much to even challenge him now...

sad state I know but. I'm stuck.

as I'm a newbie, I can't post any where else...

is there part of the forum where I could advertise the car, if anyone wanted it to repair, even if I could get back part of what I paid for it. Maybe someone who knows their stuff would be prepared to buy it as everything else is sound on it..............

I've been looking through the past service papers and also bills from stuff that's been done and it seems to have been well looked after !
